Writing Priorities : Advice from Jennifer Blanchard

posted on February 4, 2019

How important is writing to you, really?

Have you ever woken up in the morning determined to get some writing done? Or, promised yourself that you will write every day? And it doesnt happen? Your writing priorities are in your head and heart but your behaviour shows differently.

As writers, we’ve chosen a very self-disciplined path.

No-one is going to write our book for us! (Of course, we can hire a ghost-writer. But even then we need to provide him/her a story idea, outline, instructions, etc to produce our work).

Jennifer Blanchard has been what many of us are. Aspiring writers who want so much to successfully write.  Our intention is to write. Our hope is to be a writer. Our dream is to write, even publish. Yet hopes, dreams and intentions don’t write books. No matter what success means to you, it seems many of us shoot ourselves in the foot and ultimately fail to realise our dreams.

Ask me how I know 🙂

This short 6 minute audio will help you tease out some of the issues. Issues that prevent you doing what you are wanting to do. Learn about your writing priorities and how to do better. Definitely worth a listen.

Addressing Your Writing Priorities And Habits

NB: the worksheet isn’t available on her website.  But all good. Jennifer walks you through the content in the audio. So, grab a pen and paper before you listen.

Finally, develop habits to become really productive and cement your writing priorities. Listen to the audio. Do the exercises. Really do them. Then reflect on what behaviours you need to start or stop doing that will help you write as you aspire to. Or, don’t. Keep wishing and hoping and not doing. Just don’t expect to be a writer that way.

Here are a couple of other things for you that will help you make writing a priority:

  • find out how to write your book in 60 days or,
  • build up better writing habits.
