Newcastle Writers Festival

The inaugural Newcastle Writers Festival was held in 2013 and was a resounding success. More than 70 writers participated in 38 sessions – half of which were free. In 2014, the festival was enhanced by the addition of a popular children’s program. More than 100 writers participated in the extended festival and more than 6500 people attended the event, from preschoolers to adults. The 2016, 2017 and 2018 festivals were bigger and better still, and we’re looking forward to exceeding…

Sydney Writers Festival

Held in the harbour-side city of Sydney, the SWF is a mega-event showcasing some 300 events for over 100,000 festival-goers. Australian and International guest writers combine with intellectuals, scientists and journalists to present the latest in fiction, non-fiction and more. There are free and paid events as well as live streaming for regional areas. Definitely needs to be on the bucket-list to attend.

Dunedin is a UNESCO City of Literature and proud host of the Dunedin Writers & Readers Festival. The festival is held early May. Last held 2017 and there's another in 2019.

Byron Bay Writers Festival

Byron Writers Festival is the central hub to the Northern Rivers’ active, vibrant literary culture of reading and writing. Our primary purpose is to create and deliver programs that involve and enrich professional, amateur and aspiring writers (and readers) of all ages. Our mission is to promote literature (particularly Australian), enhance the skills of writers, and foster a culture of reading and writing among all age groups in the Northern Rivers and beyond.
